Bring Back Merdeka Sprit
KUALA LUMPUR: MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu has called on all Malaysians to return to the true spirit of Merdeka as proclaimed by Tunku Abdul Rahman.
“As our country’s first prime minister and Father of Independence, he opened the path for all Malaysians to live in harmony and to respect each other,” he said in his Merdeka Day message.
“Today, we need to bring back that spirit ignited by the great Tunku, our nation’s founding father.”
Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the time had come for Malaysians to renew their pledge made 51 years ago in ensuring the country remained free and independent.
“Since the momentous date of Merdeka, we Malaysians have gone through difficult and successful moments together. We have placed our hopes to see a Malaysia that is just, prosperous and strong,” he said in his Merdeka day message.
Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim in his Merdeka Day address said the people’s welfare would be the main concern, together with pushing Selangor’s economic engine forward to ensure all races benefited from it.
